I made this poster for the 2021 edition of the Montreux Jazz Festival Poster contest. I ended up in the top 30 and the poster was exhibited during the 55th edition of the festival. The theme for the poster and contest was RESTART and I illustrated this idea inspired by music sheets and notations: the restart from the beginning of a part is indicated on the sheets with D.C. (da capo) meaning "from the start". This indication is often used alongside the musical repetition mark notated ":||" that points out the bars that need to be started over. I played with this idea and made a lettering with the festival name in black and white, inspired by the lines of musical sheets.

On a personal note, I am a big fan of jazz, and it always surprised me with its rhythms and improvisation. I also took inspiration from this personal perception, the letters are overlapping in a lively and intricate way, and at the very end, I added the subtle D.C. indication, thus indicating the restart, in this case, the restart of the festival, the music, and the good vibes it brings along. The typeface used down below is Kaftan by Victor Bartis.
